What does this application boost and what are the benefits for a child?
A computer application, when used to a reasonable extent, can act as a natural teacher. In a funny way it motivates a child to fulfil certain tasks which may help develop imagination, creativity and other cognitive abilities. It encourages a child to explore and investigate new things through play that shapesmental development. Working with the application can teach a child about nature, sports or elements of maths, a child can learn how to pay attention, define space or arrange objects according to certain attributes, etc.
Does this application provide a kind of education or is it just a source of fun?
Playing with the application a child can improve logics, perception of space, memory, concentration, creativity and the speed of response. A child is asked to focus on fulfilling the task and achieving the result, both being the basic conditions for further education.
What is the principle of the game?
The basic idea behind the game is to provide children a kind of education through trying new challenges, fixing the already acquired knowledge and practising them in an easy to- understand game. The portal setting is simple and is designed to be used by a pre-school /early-school user.
How does a game work?
On the main page there is a plan of "towns" each of them representing one topic. Each town image contains a blue sound icon. After clicking on it you will hear the name of the topic which is offered.
After entering the town, you will see images of "houses", each of them representing questions, puzzles and tasks for a given topic. Again, you can use a blue sound icon to hear the reading of the task so that children who cannot read can play it without any help.
After entering the house an implemented voice asks a child to solve the task which consists of a series of questions. Each correct answer is indicated by a star (1, 2 or 3) under the house image depending on how many correct answers are given.
Some houses look like a big colourful question mark. They always precede houses with a task as they provide additional information or needed knowledge. These images are teaching houses. They are not present in all towns which means that the given games are not focused on education but on concentration, logic or other cognitive skills.
What is the goal of the game?
In the first place the game is educational and funny. Children of a pre-school or early-school age are not supposed to win as many stars as possible but to have fun when passing from one task to another. They learn without noticing it. They gather a lot of important basic information useful for their further progress in elementary learning. The stars are a good motivation for obtaining and practising knowledge.
How many games are on the portal?
There are 21 towns providing together 22 topics (the last town contains 2 topics). Each town contains several houses, 232 houses together. Each house gives a series of questions and the number of them depends on a child´s concentration ability. In case a child tries the series again, the questions may alter and new ones may be generated. This means that several thousand of variations and combinations are available which is a guarantee of a long-term enjoyment-giving and teaching process.
Are all the games available independently?
Yes, they are. The games are not required to be played in a sequence. A child can choose either tasks from mathematics or learn something new about animals and later test the acquired knowledge. The topics can be chosen according to individual wish and preference. The houses can be chosen by random but as tasks become gradually more difficult, it is reasonable yet not mandatory, to go one after the other.
How many children can be registered on one account?
In case of paid membership two types of accounts are offered: Parent - which allows registration up to three children (users) and Kindergarten – which allows registration up to thirty children (users.) To distinguish users easily, each child can choose their own avatar and add it to the name. Each user is included in a simple statistic recording the achievements.
Is an adult required to be present when using the application?
When developing the application, a special attention was paid to a final user – a pre-school aged child – to enable them to understand, manage and use it without being helped. It is supposed that a child can use the application without the presence of an adult. Parent´s help can be useful to keep all data necessary for the continuity of playing in a chosen language. The application is offered in two languages, Slovak and English.
